Princess Hijab

Princess Hijab

Since 2006, PRINCESS HIJAB, a young Paris-based street artist has been ‘hijabizing’ Parisian ads, spray-painting veils and chadors onto lightly dressed models around the city. Few advertising campaigns are spared by the princess. Princess hijab claims that she is pursuing a noble cause with her ‘anti advertising movement’ combatting mass consumerism and sexist ads. Although the hijab is a highly charged topic in France, Princess Hijab claims that it is neither political nor religious. Instead the black veil is a reference to pop culture, and a way to elegantly hide the advertising. Unlike other street artists, Princess Hijab has chosen to remain anonymous which has caused debate as to whether or not she is Muslim. Or perhaps even a man?

Sebastian Wahl

Garden of eathly delights

Detailed surreal works by Swedish collage and mural artist SEBASTIAN WAHL. His works are a mix of imagery from pop culture, religious iconography, organic forms and psychedelic images. He uses a resin-coating technique which gives it a three-dimensional quality. He is originally from Stockholm, but now lives in Bronx, NYC. Wahl recently had an exhibition entitled ’Garden of earthly delights’ at Ideal Glass gallery in NYC. Via beautifuldecay.

Christian Elovara Dinesen

The amazing air travel

My friend, Astrid, told me a while ago to check out the work of one of her friends, CHRISTIAN ELOVARA DINESEN (b.1982, Denmark). Christian is part of the artistic duo, Ultragroen, together with Morten Leck Plesner. They started ultragroen in 2005, while living in Barcelona. It was exhibited @ Kunsthal Charlottenborg in 2009. Christian Elovara Dinesen is currently part of the group show DOMESTIC MASH-UP @ gallery WAS in Copenhagen. The exhibition runs until 12.01.2010.

Decorating the streets of New York

Judith Supine is 29-year-old street artist living in Brooklyn, NY. Apparently, Judith couldn’t speak until after his seventeenth birthday. Instead he drew pictures to communicate with his family. His collages are hand cut from magazines and newspapers he finds in people’s trash. Then the collages are blown up on a photocopier, and finally painted and pasted on a wall. Placement is essential for many street artist and this is a skill Supine is very talented at. He recently placed one of his latest piece, ‘Above The City In A Summer Night Dream’ at the Williamsburg Bridge in New York, and some years ago he placed another large and detailed figure at The Manhattan Bridge. Most of his pieces are spread all around the streets of New York. Supine has exhibited at English Kills Art Gallery in Brooklyn and at the Circle Culture Gallery in Berlin amongst others.
